The allure of AI innovation has prompted many builders to experiment enthusiastically with new products and platforms. After all, everything AI-related is still in its infancy. What’s not new, however, is the restrictive approach imposed by certain solution providers, which aims to discreetly lock builders and creators into a subservient relationship that’s difficult to escape. Creators often find themselves trapped in this paradigm because most underlying systems, including the API, server-side resources, and other tools essential for AI training, continuous learning, and interaction with the world, remain copyrighted and under the ownership of platform owners, not AI creators. Even when AI products are ready for deployment, creators often find themselves with no viable deployment alternatives, especially after having inadvertently surrendered their freedom by creating hard-to-break dependencies and, in some cases, their AI algorithms, applications, and data can be taken away (just try discontinuing your service subscription).
